July 25, 2013, 11:25Filed under:,The basics:. I have seen 10,000+ films., veteran film nut. Herein: A year-by-year listing of my favorite films in rough preference order, others of interest and many I still need to see. New amsterdams killed or cured rar files. This is meant to be a practical guide for me, and possibly for you. I’m selective about what I view, making lists since the ’70s from deep research into the cinematic lit and the ‘net. FYI:.

This is not a listing of everything I’ve seen, but a sampling. The parenthetical number placed next to the year, eg. 1939 (115) is how many I’ve seen for that year. (.Note: Counts will be a little bit off due to undone updates, etc.). For the record = Notable films of high repute I’ve viewed that had their moments but did not make my cut of favorites. To re-watch= Usually referring to films I saw so long ago that I can’t judge them and need to view again.

To see = Important films I still need to see, but have no copy at hand. In the queue = Unseen films that I have at hand to view, time permitting. Vintage Rating = my unscientific 1 – 10 quality grade for each year. (Years awarded the 9.5 to 10 rating(s) would include 1925, 1927, 1933, 1934, 1939, 1940, 1941, 1957, 1959, 1960, 1964 and 1994, for instance, due to the high number of quality classics released in those years. The lowest quality grade I’ve awarded is a 4, so I don’t know if anything would rate less).

My tastes are complex and unpredictable. Here is a feeble attempt to explain my cinematic. It might reveal why some things are on the list and others aren’t. My lists for the 2000s are weak and should not be taken seriously. I have a lot of catching up. I give priority to older films, as I prefer them. My lists are strong through 1999.

I’ve ceased seeing films in theaters. All viewing is at home. I don’t care about the latest “buzz.” My view is broader. The font size in the WordPress Benevolence theme is small. I’m sorry about this, but I can’t change it.

I like the theme design. Dates for films follow first-release date in all cases except in absurd ones where the release date is too far removed from actual production date.

I’ve tried to check all dates. I strip most entries of non-English diacritic marks because they always get lost into garbage code in the crossing between platforms and programs and I’m just tired of that. WordPress changed the editor and now I am unable to update the blogroll list on the left. Sorry that some of the links are dead (most are still working), but I don’t know how to fix it with the changes.“News”: UPDATE FOR APRIL 14, 2018.

I AM BACK – sort of, probably, maybe. I haven’t done anything substantial with this blog in 8 years. Life has been fulsome and interesting, and this site was no longer a priority. I’m trying to make a concerted effort to update my film viewing and wrench it forward into the 21st century and mop up the few must-sees from the last century. I’m considering taking this show also to Letterboxd, but fear that as soon as I put a lot of work into it there the site would go defunct or something. I had another blog on WordPress that has had over a million hits and some gal friend in England told me if I had monetized it I would be kind of rich, but I missed out on that.

Anyway, if I can keep all the forces of evil at bay that keep trying to regulate my life, I may have time and the will to work on this again. I will make updates, corrections, and changes of heart to this list sporadically. To see what I’ve viewed in prior months:.
